The way it used to be. Loco number 44422 is one of three survivors from a class of 4F 0-6-0 locomotives originally designed by Fowler as a standard Midland Railway freighl engine. This recreation at Kingsley & Froghall station is a faithful one, as the LMS and later BR used this freight type extensively on passenger work. This particular locomotive was built at Derby Works in 1927 and entered traffic with the LMS in October of that year, being withdrawn in June 1965.

“After much soul searching I chose a basic Canon digital camera, liked the results and eventually moved on to a Canon DSI Mk11 which, with the right selection of lenses, I find perfect for railway photography. I am a registered volunteer at the CVR and over the past couple of years I have started to assemble a photographic archive for them.

“Railway photography now takes me all over the country, and indeed often to other parts of the world. In doing so I have had a good deal of my work published and also made a great many friends. I hope you enjoy this personal selection from some of my favourite CVR images.” David Gibson May 2009.
